Getting Started

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No referral is required. You can contact Blue Rock Psychology directly by email or phone to book a free 20-minute consultation. The consultation helps us understand what you're looking for and match you with the right therapist.
What happens during the free consultation?
The free 20-minute consultation is a low-pressure conversation. It's a chance for you to ask questions, share a bit about what you're hoping to work on, and get a sense of whether Blue Rock Psychology is a good fit for you.
Can I choose my own therapist?
Yes. You're welcome to review the team profiles and reach out to a specific therapist directly. If you're unsure who might be the best fit, the free consultation can help with that.
How do I book an appointment?
New clients can email hello[at]bluerockpsychology.ca or call 587-436-4797. We aim to respond within 24 hours. Returning clients must use the client portal.

The Therapy Process

What types of therapy do you offer?
What issues do your therapists work with?
Our therapists work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma (including PTSD, CPTSD, and religious trauma), grief, relationship difficulties, life transitions (such as divorce, career changes, and faith transitions), family conflict, teen mental health, and more. If you're unsure whether your situation is something we work with, feel free to ask.
How long does therapy take?
This varies depending on your goals, history, and the nature of what you're working on. Some clients benefit from a focused short-term process of 6 to 12 sessions. Others find longer-term therapy more suited to their needs. This is something you and your therapist will discuss and revisit together throughout the process.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. In-person sessions are available at our office at #930 – 10655 Southport Road SW. Online sessions are available via a secure videoconferencing platform for clients who prefer to meet remotely. Please refer to our contact page for instructions on finding our office.

  • Canadian Certified Counsellor: $180 per 60-minute individual session; $250 for 90-minute couples sessions.

Is therapy covered by Alberta Health Services (AHS)?

However, many employers' extended health benefit plans provide coverage for registered psychologists and counsellors. Contact your insurance provider to confirm your coverage, eligible registration types, and any annual limits before booking.
Do you offer direct billing to insurance?
Blue Rock Psychology does not offer direct billing. After each session, your therapist will issue a receipt that includes their registration number and practice details, which you submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
Is a sliding scale available?
Yes, for a limited number of clients. Please ask your therapist directly for details.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Credit card is preferred. E-transfer is also accepted.

Credentials and Qualifications

What is the difference between a Registered Psychologist, a Registered Provisional Psychologist, and a Canadian Certified Counsellor?
In Alberta, a Registered Psychologist (RPsych) has completed a graduate degree in psychology and is fully regulated by the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). A Registered Provisional Psychologist holds the same educational qualifications and is completing the supervised post-graduate hours required for full registration. A Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) is certified through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Extended health benefit plans typically recognize all three designations, though clients should confirm coverage specifics with their insurer.
Are your therapists currently accepting new clients?
Yes. Blue Rock Psychology is currently accepting new clients. Contact us to book a free consultation, and we'll work to find availability with the right therapist for you.
