Adolescence is a time of significant physical, emotional, and social change. Teen therapy at Blue Rock Psychology offers a safe, confidential space for young people to navigate this important stage of life with support, clarity, and connection.
How We Support Teens
Therapy for teens looks different than therapy for adults. Our therapists understand the unique pressures teenagers face and adapt their approach accordingly.
In teen counselling, your adolescent will find:
- A non-judgmental space to talk openly about school, friendships, family, or other pressures
- Support in processing difficult emotions and experiences
- Tools for managing stress, anxiety, and overwhelming feelings
- Help strengthening identity and building confidence
- Strategies for healthy coping and decision-making
- A trusted adult outside the family system
We meet teens where they are, whether they’re eager to talk or more hesitant. Our therapists build rapport at the teen’s pace, creating safety before diving into deeper work.
Issues We Work With
Our teen therapists help adolescents navigating:
- Anxiety and worry
- Depression and low mood
- School stress and academic pressure
- Social challenges and peer relationships
- Family conflict
- Identity exploration (including gender and sexuality)
- Self-esteem and body image
- Life transitions (parents’ divorce, moving, changing schools)
- Grief and loss
- Trauma
Our Approach With Teens
We draw on evidence-based approaches adapted for adolescents:
- Attachment-based therapy helps teens understand their emotional needs and relationship patterns
- Narrative therapy helps teens “re-author” their stories in empowering ways
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) builds psychological flexibility and values-based living
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) offers practical tools for managing thoughts and emotions
Parent Involvement
We recognize that teens exist within a family system. Depending on the situation, your therapist may offer:
- Parent consultations to discuss progress and strategies
- Joint parent-teen sessions to improve communication and understanding
- Recommendations for how parents can support their teen at home
Parent involvement is tailored to each situation, always prioritizing the teen’s sense of safety and autonomy in the therapeutic relationship.
