Family Counselling

Families are complex systems. Sometimes the whole family needs support to navigate conflict, rebuild trust, or strengthen connection. Family counselling at Blue Rock Psychology helps parents and teens understand each other’s perspectives and develop healthier ways of relating.

How Family Therapy Works

Family sessions bring parents and teens together to address dynamics that may be causing conflict or distance. Rather than focusing on one “problem” person, we look at the patterns between family members and work to shift them.

In family therapy, you can expect:

  • A safe space for each family member to share their perspective
  • Support in understanding each other’s experiences and emotions
  • Exploration of patterns that contribute to conflict or disconnection
  • Identification of family strengths and positive dynamics
  • Practical strategies for improving communication
  • Tools for navigating disagreements with respect

What We Address in Family Therapy

Family counselling may be helpful when:

  • Communication has broken down between parents and teens
  • There’s ongoing conflict that you can’t seem to resolve
  • Trust has been damaged and needs rebuilding
  • A teen is struggling and the whole family feels affected
  • The family is navigating a significant transition (divorce, blending families, moving)
  • Parents and teens have different expectations or values causing friction
  • You want to strengthen your family relationships before problems escalate

Our Approach

We often combine individual teen sessions with family sessions, allowing:

  • The teen to have their own space to process and prepare
  • Parents to receive guidance on how to support their teen
  • Joint sessions to practice new communication patterns together

This flexible approach ensures that each family member feels heard while strengthening the relationships between them.
